The Selection Process is initiated after the Merit Board receives notice from the Illinois State Police that a cadet class has been scheduled. The process consists of the following steps:
        Fitness Test - The Fitness Test is a four-item, pass or fail test.  Click here to read a breakdown of the four item test and view a video demonstrating each item on the test.
        Background Investigation/Review – A complete background investigation, including education, personal and employment references, traffic, criminal and credit history is completed. Once all background information has been compiled, a committee, comprised of a Merit Board member and an Illinois State Police Colonel will meet to review this information to determine which applicants advance to oral interviews. Polygraph testing may be required at this, or any other stage of the Selection Process.
        Oral Interview – The Oral Interview consists of two parts.  The first part consists of an interview with a Merit Board member and an Illinois State Police Colonel.  The second part includes a written assignment and an oral presentation to a panel of ISP officers.  An individual Oral Interview takes approximately one and a half hours to complete. Applicants are ranked after this step of the process.
        Certification – An appropriate number of applicants needed for the cadet class is certified to the Director of the Illinois State Police, and scheduled for a medical and psychological examination. The exams are administered by the Illinois State Police.
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2020- The College Degree requirements will be an Associates Degree or 60 Credit Hours.

Job Summary
The Equipment Mechanic shall inspect, perform maintenance and repair equipment per the manufacturers’ specifications.  Additionally, must assure that all equipment is in safe operating condition and that all tags/markings required by our Safety Program are in place.
Essential Functions
• Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values”.
• Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company’s “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics”.
• Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
• Performs routine oil changes on equipment such as telehandlers, skid-steers, small generators, and Matrix owned site trucks.
• Maintenance of company owned site fleet vehicles to include tire changes, replacing defective, damaged and wear components.
• Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools.
• Tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
• May repair, adjust, and maintain machinery.
• Identify safety hazards and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
• Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.
  
Qualifications
• 5+ years’ related experience in auto and diesel mechanics and maintenance.
• Valid CDL Class B Driver’s license preferred.
• An acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), per the company’s established requirements in order to be eligible to operate a vehicle on company business.
• Ability to pass DOT Drug Test.
• Ability to do light welding is a plus.
• Working knowledge of construction equipment, including previous maintenance experience.
• A general knowledge of basic hand tools and specialty tools.
• ASE certification would be an asset.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

Job Description
The Selection Process is initiated after the Merit Board receives notice from the Illinois State Police that a cadet class has been scheduled. The process consists of the following steps:
        Fitness Test - The Fitness Test is a four-item, pass or fail test.  Click here to read a breakdown of the four item test and view a video demonstrating each item on the test.
        Background Investigation/Review – A complete background investigation, including education, personal and employment references, traffic, criminal and credit history is completed. Once all background information has been compiled, a committee, comprised of a Merit Board member and an Illinois State Police Colonel will meet to review this information to determine which applicants advance to oral interviews. Polygraph testing may be required at this, or any other stage of the Selection Process.
        Oral Interview – The Oral Interview consists of two parts.  The first part consists of an interview with a Merit Board member and an Illinois State Police Colonel.  The second part includes a written assignment and an oral presentation to a panel of ISP officers.  An individual Oral Interview takes approximately one and a half hours to complete. Applicants are ranked after this step of the process.
        Certification – An appropriate number of applicants needed for the cadet class is certified to the Director of the Illinois State Police, and scheduled for a medical and psychological examination. The exams are administered by the Illinois State Police.
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2020- The College Degree requirements will be an Associates Degree or 60 Credit Hours.

Job Summary
The Equipment Mechanic shall inspect, perform maintenance and repair equipment per the manufacturers’ specifications.  Additionally, must assure that all equipment is in safe operating condition and that all tags/markings required by our Safety Program are in place.
Essential Functions
• Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values”.

• Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
• Performs routine oil changes on equipment such as telehandlers, skid-steers, small generators, and Matrix owned site trucks.
• Maintenance of company owned site fleet vehicles to include tire changes, replacing defective, damaged and wear components.
• Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools.
• Tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
• May repair, adjust, and maintain machinery.
• Identify safety hazards and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
• Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.
  
Qualifications
• 5+ years’ related experience in auto and diesel mechanics and maintenance.
• Valid CDL Class B Driver’s license preferred.
• An acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), per the company’s established requirements in order to be eligible to operate a vehicle on company business.
• Ability to pass DOT Drug Test.
• Ability to do light welding is a plus.
• Working knowledge of construction equipment, including previous maintenance experience.
• A general knowledge of basic hand tools and specialty tools.
• ASE certification would be an asset.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
